Fibers are used in both primary and secondary composite aircraft structures and are therefore present in most commercial aircraft in service today.

Nonwoven fibers are used in a variety of ways in aircraft structures and often serve more than one function. Typical applications include use as a carrier substrate for adhesives or frangible materials, providing superior surface finish, providing functions such as electromagnetic shielding and electrical conductivity, and improving fracture toughness or resin flow.
